Sterling, KY., and appropriately named The News. The article was found in Lucy Lee Bailey's grandmother's Bible and passed along to Marna Hing of Lorane, Oregon. "Mr. & Mrs. M.C. Bailey celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home, in this city, Wednesday, of this week, it being the last day of January (1905). They were married to each other fifty years ago, and their union has been blessed with ten children, nine daughters and one son. A large crowd of their friends gathered at their home Wednesday evening, bringing with them many costly presents. One valuable remembrance was twenty dollars in gold, given them by some of their friends, who combined their gifts. A most sumptuous meal was served at three o' clock and the entire crowd present partook of a most delicious feast. It was, indeed a most impressive occasion to see the favorite couple after two score and ten years of happy wedlock as they renewed their vows and again spoke of fidelity. The services were conducted by Rev. W.W. Powell, with most fitting ceremony, and with words of thanksgiving for their happy union." A second article from the same source gives some valuable info: "Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. W.J. Pennell, of Seneca, MO.; Mrs. Robert Thomas, of Mullen, Idaho; Mrs. Cordie Clark of this city, and one son, Mr. William Bailey, of Jackson, KY. We extend our sympathy to the stricken family. Mason Bailey died from Bright's disease. He was a native of Breathitt County where he spent most of his life before he moved to Mt. Sterling two years prior to his death. He was a private in Co. I, 5th Kentucky Infantry (CSA) during the Civil War and served under Captain Henry Chapman Swango, along with several of his friends and relatives."
