The man was identified as Ralph Williams. Investigating officer Deputy Sheriff Mickey Arnold said that Williams had pulled onto KY 109 from a side road - KY 2917 and then was attempting to turn onto the One Eye Ridge Road when Williams turned into the path of a 1993 tractor-trialer operated by Bobby R. Ferrel of Sturgis and owned by D&D Trucking of Morganfield. Arnold noted that the One Eye Ridge Road is 75 feet south of SR 2971. Arnold said Ferrel was unable to aovid the collision or to stop before striking William's vehicle. Ferrell's truck then left the road, overturned, stricking a fence and utility pole, traveling some 201 feet from the impact. William's vehicle traveled about 150 feet from the impact point. Both vehicles were severely damaged by the collision. Arnold said William's visibility was limited or obstructed because of the sun's angle at that time of the morning. The accident occurred at 7:30am and Williams, a retired coal miner, was pronounced dead at the Methodist Hospital, Union County, at 8:23am. Details of the funeral are on page 2. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Jul 1999 10:39:16 +0200 From: "MDT - Maria" Subject: KFY:OBITS: Union County, May 5, 1999 Copied with the permission of The Sturgis News, Sturgis, Union Co., KY, Wed. Madisonville Ky. June 22nd. 1920 Miss Montie Moore Crofton Ky Dear Girl:- I must tell you that it certainly is grand to think of being some benefit to those I love in this their hours of trouble & disappoinment, for it is my greatest aim & purpose in life to make those happy with whom I associate & most especially those who have always been very near & dear to me. I understand your position in regard to the Soldier Boys. & believe me I appreciated it too more than i can tell you at present. but hope to tell you later. Montie will you please bear in mind that in case you and Herschel should travel lifes journey together or should you go in opposite directions, my prayer is for a blessing upon each of your pathways. Montie I have never in life met a proposition like this. I have laughed & I have cried, I have prayed & also given thanks when I think of the past with its heart-aches and long years of disappointments for you both. I can't keep from crying through sympathy. turn the picture over and look at the present conditions & I can only think of rejoicing for it seems that death only could separate you in this world while then you would spend eternity together and surely there could not be a grander thought. I must think at present that the hand of God has figured out this proposition hoping to live to see it made complete. Montie in conclusion I will say for all concerned should it ever please you to come into our home be it early or late; day or night rest assured there awaits for you a welcome (underlined) by all of us from the least to the greatest upon your arrival. For fear I take too much of your time I will close. Your devoted Friend Mrs. Wed Brown P.S. Sure I gave the rose to Herschel with pleasure it sure was sweet. I love the flowers so much. Give Miss Ruth my regards in the interest of the boy & yourself as well. i sure appreciate your interest in Herschel for he deserves it as he certainly has been true to you. I only trust the Good Lord that you can some day: Montie there isent a girl in the world that can take your place with me. Montie I am not ashamed to tell you any thing I have ever done although I havent been as good as I should have been. we all make mistakes some time. Montie it is the joy of my life to hear you say that you thought more of me than any one on earth. Dear Girl I appreciate it more than any poor Boy living. please dont worry because your Mother wont let me come. that is alright with me. she may be sorry some day of the way she has treated you: I pray that God will forgive her of the worry she has caused me to go through with. Montie dont you let her catch you writing to me if you dont get to write to me often. I wouldnt have her to find it out for any thing in this world believe me. I will write to you just the same if I live. I feel like now that I have a pair of wings. see Montie you are the joy of my life. you are all I am living for. I have something to tell you if I ever see you again. then I have a question to ask you & if you turn me down then the plesure & joy of my life is forever gone. that is the way I feel about it now: Montie the years that have past the hard work I have done & the trouble I have gone through with have caused me to change in looks quite a bit: but Dear Girl you will always be the same Girl to me when your hair has turned to Silvery gray.
