To the Citizens of Monticello The undersigned constituting the Board of health for Wayne County, acting in accordance with the laws of the state of kentucky , and in view of the fact that typhoid fever has become prevalent deem it necessary to issue the following proclamation. Owing to the prevalence of typhoid fever and other infectious diseases during the summer and fall months, in and around Monticello, Kentucky, we the undersigned Board of health for Wayne County, do hereby command , order, and direct that all residents, heads of famalies, and persons engaged in business of any and all kinds in Wayne County, and especially inthe town of Montocello, shall keep their premises clean and in santitary condition. We futher order that here after the owners of any stock, such as horses, cows, hogs, dogs, or cats, which shall die shall bury them at least eighteen inches under the surface of the earth, that it shall be the duty of all butchers or any persons killing either beef, mutton, or pork in Monticello, Ky to destroy the offals in the same way that dead animals are to be disposed of. that all ces-pools, hog-pens, and chicken-coops and all places where would be putrefaction and decay must be kept in a healthy and santitary condition. It is made the duty of this board to inspect the premises of the residents of this town, and within the next ten days the undersigned Board of health will make a through investigation of the condition of the premises in and about the town of monticello, ky and will at once order the same cleaned and put in santitary condition. It is the duty of the county attorney to prosecute all persons refusing to obey the orders of this board, and he shall be promptly notified of any such failures. Our town needs very much cleaning at this time . It is alarming that typhoid fever has become prevalent so early. We fear that if active measures are not taken that it will become an epidemic in our midst. Asking that you all obey this proclamation and make it unnecessary for us to resort to the courts, we are.
