SORY, TWICE MAYOR HERE, DIES SUDDENLY AT 80 Dr. James Dunn Sory, 80, retired physician, twice mayor and five times councilman of Madisonville died Sunday in his home from a heart attack. Born 20 Mar 1868 in Sadlers Tenn, s/o late Horatio G Sory and Elizabeth Dunn Sory. Came to Madisonville 27 Mar 1889 on horseback and purchased the office equipment and instruments of the late Dr A F Rash, father of Mrs E P Claytor. Began practive of medicine with the late Dr A W Brasher in the old Nisbet bldg on South Main.Three years later he opened an office of his own and in 1919 became associated with the late Dr L J Townes who died in 1944. Retired in 1947 After 58 years of service to people of Madisonville and surrounding community, he retired from active practice in 1947. With the exception of the time he spent with the army in the medical corps on the Mexican border and in the county and overseas in WWI, he continuously administered to the sick, both day and night, in this vicinity. Received grade schoolin in Adams, Tenn; attended Bethel College in Russellville for 1 yr and then completed his education at Vanderbilt Univ School of Medicine in Nashville. Survived by widow, Mrs Margaret V Sory; brother Dr Robert Sory, Richmond, Ky; sisters Mrs Pearl Jackson, Richmond Ky and Mrs Morgan Hughes, Louisville; 3 grsons, Dr James S Forbes, Madisonville; M C Forbes II, Kingsville Tx and James D Sory III, Frankfort, Ky. Funeral First Baptist church Tuesday, Rev. Harold D Tallant, church pastor, officiating. The body will then be taken to Louisville for cremation. Harris Funeral Home in charge. SORY, 80, HELD HERE Funeral services for Dr James D Sory, 80, prominent Madisonville physician for 58 years who died suddenly in his home Sunday night were conducted in Madisonville First Baptist church today with the Rev. Harold D Tallant, pastor, officiating. Immediately following the ceremony the body was taken to Louisville for cremation. A private burial service will be held here tomorrow. Born 7 Jan 1898, Hopkins county, d/o late Mr and Mrs Jonah Walker. Married Mr Slaton Dec 1912 and to this union 5 ch born, all of whom survive. Lifelong resident of Hopkins county and White Plains for past 16 years. He was crushed between the motor and the face of the coal while operating the mine motor. Surviving are the widow, Mrs Ola Love and two children, Tommy and Larry Love; parents, Mr and Mrs Frank Love, all of Dawson Springs; brother, J G Love, Dawson Springs; half-brother, Leslie Dillingham, Dawson Springs; two sisters, Mrs J R Stausman, Evansville; Miss Louise Love, Dawson Springs, and a half-sister, Mrs Ellis Linville, Dawson Springs.
