MURPHY achieved prodegies of scientific pugilism, knocking down five or six of his assailants. He had four of them down at one time, and came off an easy winner. Several of the assailants were arrested and two, WRIGHT and SMOTHERS, were sent to jail. Deplorable Accident A private dispatch received here last night brought the painful intelligence that the wife of James M. BALLARD, Esq., Sheriff of this county, was dreadfully burned yesterday afternoon. Mr. Ballard's house near Loretto took fire, but the fire was quickly extinguished. While Mrs. BALLARD was engaged in removing some articles from a press , a powder horn exploded and set fire to her clothing. Her injuries were of such a character that they were expected to prove fatal. Mr. BALLARD was in Lebanon yesterday and had started home about a quarter of an hour befor the telegram arrived. Foolish Order In pursuance fo a foolish order from the Louisville Board of Heath, the baggae of all persons going from this secton to Louisville has to be examined before it is put on the cars and a certificate give that it contains only wearing appparel. The order causes much inconvenience to travelers, as well as station agents, and is the subject of general unfavorable comment. ______________________________X-Message: #4 Date: Tue, 23 May 2000 10:20:58 -0400 From: Bradford.Buck@RossNutrition.com Subject: NEWS: Lebanon, Marion Co Lebanon, Marion County, KY News from April 1912: BETHEL UNION Mrs. Susan MURPHY, wife of George MURPHY died very unexpectedly Saturday Morning March 30th (1912) aged 68 years. She suffered a fall one week ago from the effects of which she was supposed to be recovering when she suddenly sank to the end. She leaves a husband and six children namely Mrs. Otis GRIBBINS, Mrs. Wallace WALLS, Miss Lou MURPHY, and Messrs. Charlie, Will and Shelby MURPHY. To them we extend the greatest sympathy. Her body was laid to rest in Bethel Union (Presbyterian Church) Cemetery Sunday afternoon and the large crowd of relatives, friends and neighbors that attended attested to her worth. A more devoted family of children, to their mother we never saw. Truly a faithful wife, a loving mother, a kind friend and a neighbor has gone. (Cause of death was pneumonia. Susan had fallen on rain-slicked stairs and broken her hip. She laid there several hours before she was found) Mr. Andrew BOWLES of Campbellsville, who is attending the Lebanon Normal School, spent the weekend with friends here.
