KY-FOOTSTEPS-D Digest 15 July 2000 Volume 00 : Issue 227 ______________________________X-Message: #1 Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 15:15:12 -0400 From: Bradford.Buck@RossNutrition.com Subject: OBIT: Lee Tharp, Lebanon, Marion Co Lee Tharp Obituary (Circa 1900, Newspaper Unknown, Lebanon, KY) DIES SUDDENLY IN BUGGY While coming to town Saturday, Lee THARP died suddenly in his buggy on the Danville Pike, just this side of Grime*,s hill. The deceased had complained the day before of a dizzy spell which disturbed him some, but on the day of his death he had felt unusually well and was in the best of spirits. At the time the fatal summons came he was driving along in company with his brother-in-law, Mr. (Shelby) MURPHY, when suddenly his head fell to his chest and the lines dropped from his hands. His brother-in-law noticing this asked him what was the matter and receiving no answer he soon discovered that Mr. THARP was in a dying condition. Hurrying on to town he drove to Dr. THORNTON*,S office where it was found that life was extinct. His remains were taken to the office of BOSLEY and HUGHES, the undertakers, and prepared for burial. Funeral services were conducted at his residence on Pope*,s Creek (on) Monday by Rev. T.F. WALTON, of Bradfordsville, after which the interment took place at Bethel Union. The deceased was 24 years old and is survived by his wife and two children, who have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement. ______________________________X-Message: #2 Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 15:38:19 -0400 From: Bradford.Buck@RossNutrition.com Subject: OBIT: Eliza Ewing, Lebanon, Marion Co Obituary, Mrs. Eliza Ewing, Lebanon, Marion Co, KY. VAUGHAN, aged 74 and his wife ELIZABETH VAUGHAN (nee HELM ) , aged 68 . Mr. and Mrs. VAUGHAN are the parents of ten children, all of whom are still living except one--the youngest, ELMER--who died in his fourteenth year. Two of their sons, LOGAN and WILLIAM H. are in Texas, two other sons, JOHN and BART, are citizens of Barren County, Ky, one daughter RUTH, the wife of MARK DEPEW, lives in Metcalf, and the remaining four daughters are in Russell county, three of them being widows. The youngest daughter, ALICE is the wife of Hon. W.T. SHARP, Representative-elect from casey and Russell. A large crowd of neighbors, relatives and friends collected at the residence to testify their appreciation of the old couple. After the gathering had assembled in the palor Mr. VAUGHAN made a touching talk about his marriage and his half century married life, how God had blessed him in all its varied vicissitudes, and how thankful he was for the good fortune which has attended his every effort. At the conclusion of Mr. VAUGHAN"S talk I conducted some religious exercises, after which we repaired to the dining room where a sumptuous repast had been spread, and if I fail to do justice to it on paper, I can assure you I did an ample justice to it then.
