In early life his fa-ther moved to Mercer county where he spent most of his life. He had three brothers and three sisters, four of whom are living. Brother Houp was married twice, the last time October 23, 1886, to Mrs. Beckham and she in turn was married the second time, so that there were three sets of chil-dren, whose names are as follows: William and Charles Beckham, Mrs. Dudley Harris, Cornelius Houp and his two sisters, Mrs. Martin Noel and Mrs. Fleming Houp, and Mrs. Sam Worley While this is true, there was no difference among them, as they all loved each other and their father and mother just the same. Many years ago, Brother Houp made a profession of faith and united with the Cane Run Christian church, while the house stood on the old site, but three years ago he became a member of the Shawnee Run church, of which he was a faithful member till the time of his death. During out last protracted meeting he attended day and night and I never saw anyone seem to enjoy the services of the Lord's house more. As a citizen he was peaceable and honorable, and the temperance cause has in his death lost one of its strongest advocates. He loved his neighbors, his church and his Lord. While he lately moved to town, yet his heart turned back to his old friends and neighborhood and he would come to them when opportunity offered. Brother Houp, for a long time, was a great sufferer yet he bore it all without a murmur. I never heard him com-plain. Often when he would come out to his daughter's to attend our meetings, he would not be able to attend. His devotion to his wife and children and theirs to him was beautiful. Funeral services were held at Shawnee Run Saturday, Novem-ber 19th, in the presence of a large congregation, though the weather was inclement, and his body laid to rest in our beautiful cemetery. The pall bearers were Dr. J. Tom Price, Artis Curd, Joe Worley, Cap McDonelly, John Holcomb and Mr. Lyons.
