C. P. Cawthorn & N. L. Warnell (c) 1985 by CP Cawthorn & NL Warnell. One of the oldest churches in Green Co. In 1847, John Barbee wrote a letter mentioning that most of the men on the hunt were dead but Thomas and Moses Skaggs were still alive "... Thomas is and have (sic) been an ordained preacher near 50 years...." (placing his ordination about 1797; T. Skaggs was an old Indian fighter). Trammel's Creek Church was the parent church of Little Barren River Church of United Baptist, Barren Co., KY (now Metcalfe Co.); was probably started by Rev. Elijah Summers (ord'd 1791 by S. KY Assn. of Separate Baptists), installed as pastor of Blue Ash church (1795) then moved to Green Co.; joined (1802) Mt. Gilead & installed as pastor. Thos. Bapt.; remainder stayed in Russell Creek Assn. under the name "Little Barren." 1850, Trammel Creek Ch. withdrew from Nolin Sep. Bapt. Assn. (formed from S. KY Assn. in 1819) and rejoined Russell Creek Assn. (absent for 37 years); received by Russell Creek Assn. w/unanimous vote; ceased being Separate Bapt. Ch. and was United Bapt. 7/13/1850.
