Reports upon the Causes of Epidemic Cholera.

January 13, 1875.-- Referred to the Committe on Commerce and ordered 
to be printed.

To the Senate and House of Representatives:

In accordance with the requirements of the joint resolution, approved 
March 25, 1874, authorizing an inquiry into and report upon the causes 
of epidemic cholera, I have the honor to transmit herewith reports upon 
the subject from the Secretaries of the Treasury and War Departments.

the Marine-Hospital Service upon the cholera epidemic of 1873, made 
in accordance with a joint resolution of Congress approved March 25, 
1874.

SUPERVISING SURGEON'S OFFICE,

December 30, 1874.

SIR: The Supervising Surgeo of the United States Marine-Hospital 
Service, in connection with a medical officer of the Army, was 
instructed by joint resolution of the Forty-third Congress, approved 
March 25, 1874, "to confer with the health authorities and resident 
physicians ofsuch towns, as were visited by the cholera epidemic of 
1873, and to collect, as far as possible, all facts of importance 
with regard to such epidemic," for the purpose of making a report 
of the same to the President of the United States, to be submitted 
to Congress.
