The last surviving child of Confederate General and Mrs Ben Hardin Helm, she died Thursday in Geneva, NY, while visiting relatives. Mrs Lewis was 95. Her mother was Emilie Todd Helf, a half sister of Mrs Lincoln. The widow of Walter Lewis, a Scott county farmer and horse breeder, Mrs Lewis made her home for many years at the Helm Place, a 162 year old mansion on Elkhorn Creek outside Lexington. She was a grand- daughter of John L Helm, a 19th century Kentucky governor. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and Crockett Sunday School class. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Buddy Brown of Danville; three grandsons; and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Beshear Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery. She was the niece of the late Mary Quisenberry, who lived in Danville. Streb owned Delta Insurance Agency in Raleigh for many years. She had been active in the Huguenot Society and United Daughters of the Confederacy, and had received the Varina Howell Davis Award from the Military Order of the Stars and Bars. She was a Kentucky Colonel. Survivors include a brother, Edmund L. Meekins of Lexington; and a caregiver, Daniel W. Jones of Raleigh.
