From the Danville Advocate Messenger, 15 Mar 2002 CRAB ORCHARD -- Okie Hoskins Brock, 91, of Crab Orchard died Thursday at Garrard County Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 18, 1910, in Crab Orchard, she was the daughter of the late George and Stella Wilson Hoskins. She was a homemaker and a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church and Crab Orchard Eastern Star. She was the widow of Roscoe Brock. Survivors include five daughters, Joyce Dollins of Crab Orchard, Connie Laswell, Iris Coleman and Susan Wyler, all of Lancaster, and Freda McGohon of Stanford; a sister, Lois Gordon of Danville; two brothers, Homer Hoskins and Howard Hoskins, both of Stanford; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Brown. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at McKnight Funeral Home by Ron Harp and Max Hester. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery. Born March 31, 1921, in Crab Orchard, he was the son of the Alte Cleave and Lilly King Wren. He was a retired farmer and a member of Burgin Church of God. Survivors include his wife, Bertha Wilkerson Wren; two daughters, Jenny Boyd of Danville and Brenda Hillard of Parksville; three sons, Curtis Wren of Parksville and David Wren and Glen Wren, both of Danville; a sister, Pearl Payne of Danville; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grand- children. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wren. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Donnie Irvin and Buddy Turpin. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery. He was a longtime employee of the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Durham, N.C., where he was a clinical psychiatrist. He also was a professor emeritus at Duke University. After his retirement, he worked in New Zealand and for Staffcare in Irving, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Janice Woford Hammett, formerly of Danville; a daughter, Jennifer Owens of Chesnee, S.C.; two stepsons, Hughes Helm of Hendersonville, N.C., and Miles Helm of Paris, France; a brother, Wayne Hammett of Rock Hill, S.C.; a sister, Ruth Cross of Cross, S.C.; and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Evergreen United Methodist Church. He attended West End Church of Christ and had been member of the 1942 class at Danville High School. He was a member of American Legion Boyle Post 46. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a corporal and served after the war in Occupied Japan to help to form the new Japanese government. He also was a member of Old Bridge Golf Club and a former member of Dix River Country Club. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Baugh Johnson; a daughter, Peggy Bechtold of Greenville, S.C.; a brother, Joe A. Johnson of Danville; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was a member of Ludlow First Baptist Church where he was a deacon for 45 years, a member of the worship choir, and worked with the church youth program.
