Abram Rice 27, Timothy Driskill, 23, and David Stocking, all from Lafayette were publically executed for murder. Stocking had been found guilty of killing a man named John Rose by setting fire to Rose's warehouse on Jan 8, 1855. Rice and Driskill had been involved in killing a victim named Cephas Fahrenbaugh during an armed robberty on May 3, 1855. Two unnamed accomplices turned state's evidence against Rice and Driskill in return for life sentences. The trials were reprinted by Charles W. McClure, in 1975, from an account of the hangings which are on microfilm at the Tippecanoe Co. Public Library. Rice, a tinner by trade, b. in Corydon, Indiana, and Driskill, a native of Harrisburg, Pa, and Stocking. a tavern and hostelry owner, who came from New York State, were linked by the two accomplices. The three were hanged and Driskill and Rice's bodies were delivered to friends and Stocking was buried at the expense of the county. Born May 21, 1917, in Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Alta Stephens Pitts. She was the widow of Russell Lott and a homemaker. Survivors include a son, Kenneth Gullett of Danville; four daughters, Betty Jo Cowan of Indianapolis, Margie Edwards and Norma Richard, both of Columbia, and Connie Copeland of Cookeville, Tenn.; a brother, Lester Pitts, of Jennings, La.; a sister, Dorothy Hofstra of Greenville, Texas; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Cleo Cox. Burial was in Hustonville Cemetery. She died Wednesday at Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation. Born July 16, 1945, in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Walter H. and Montie Wilson Lynn. She was an employee of American Greetings Co. and a Baptist. Survivors include her husband, Thomas "Pete" Peyton; a son Vince D. Peyton of Danville; a daughter, Fay Peyton of Danville; two brothers, Paul N. and James E. Lynn, both of Danville; three sisters, Dorothy Wilcher of Salvisa and Patty Kimberling and Betty Baugh, both of Parksville; three grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. Pallbearers will be Scottie Smith, David Lynn, Wayne Kimberling, Joey Savage, Joey Savage Jr. and Jimmy Lynn. Honorary pallbearer is Shane Yocum. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today. Johnson. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. She died Sunday at her home. Born Feb. 5, 1905, in Scott County, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Horace and Abagail Chambers Litton. She was a homemaker and had been an operator for South Central Bell. She was a former president and lifetime member of the Women's Missionary Society at First Church of God where she also was a Sunday school teacher for 50 years. She served chaplain for the Retired Railway and Veterans Club. She was a poet and songwriter and had been awarded an Editors Choice Award for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry by the National Library of Poetry. She was the widow of W.D. Laxton. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Mable Pike of Danville and Olive M. Cohron of Ocala, Fla.; a brother, Horace Litton of Danville; a sister, Edna Newby of Danville; five grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Kelly Cohran, Geoffrey Holtzclaw, Bob Newby, Horace Huffman, Wendell Spigle, William Lay and Charles Yankey. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Wednesday. "Buddy" Singleton, 52, of Perryville will be 2 p.m. Friday at Wilder Funeral Home by George Smith. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. He died Wednesday in Lexington. Born Sept. 19, 1949, in Boyle County, he was the son of Thelma Green Singleton of Junction City and the late Charles A. Singleton Sr. He was a retired Norfolk Southern Railway employee and a veteran of the Marine Corps. Other survivors include his wife, Gail Adkins Singleton; a daughter, Gretchen Singleton Jackson of Lexington; a son, Jeffrey G. Singleton of Lexington; a sister, Brenda Penn of Indiana; a brother, Michael D. Singleton of Forkland; and a grandchild. Lockhart, 94, of Georgetown, formerly of Danville, died Sunday at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Ind. He was a member of Community First Church of God. Survivors include four sons, Carlin Lockhart of Indianapolis, Leland and Samuel Lockhart, both of New Albany, and Nelson Lockhart of Louisville; five daughters, Sue Camm of New Albany, Gloria Dunn of Georgetown, Phyllis Rhodes of Sellersburg, Ind., and Kathy Carter and Debbie Trevree, both of Georgetown; 29 grandchildren; 30 great- grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Georgetown Community Church of God. Burial will be in Edwardsville Cemetery.
