Bailey, Barren Co. ------------------------------------------------------------ NOTE: I have no connection, no further information and am not seeking additional information. "Jesse N. Bailey Dies Of Heart Attack. Mr. Jesse N. Bailey died very suddenly at the home of his sister, Mrs. Martha Wells near New Salem, Saturday evening about 7:30 o'clock, while sitting at the table. "Mr. Bailey was almost fifty-eight years of age, and was born and reared in the neighborhood in which he died, but for quite a number of years lived in Glasgow and later in Bowling Green, where he sold groceries. He went to Florida, where he has been in the grocery and fruit business about eleven years. "Last week, he and a friend left Florida with a large truck load of fruit, oranges, lemons, and other fruits, with a view of opening up a trade here. They arrived here Saturday, and after disposing of some of the stock, went to the home of his sister, Mrs. Wells, to spend the night. He ate a very hearty supper, and talked quite freely about how he was doing well in his adopted home, and was cheerful as to his future prospects, when suddenly his head fell over, and he was caught by his friend, who happened to be looking at him, and in a moment he was dead. Hemorrhage of the brain is said to have been the cause. And his friend says he had been having some bleeding of the nose on the way from Florida. It also develops that he has lost three brothers, who died in the same way. W, a former nurse of this place. He also leaves one son, Mr. Wendel Bailey of this county, and five daughters, all living in Florida. One brother, Mr. Fletcher Bailey of R5 survives him. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Wells and Mrs. Bransford Spencer, both on R5. "Thursday, his wife and five daughters arrived from Florida, and yesterday the funeral was held at the home of Mrs. Wells, near New Salem by Rev. J. A. Gaines of this place and the burial was held in the cemetery at that place. "His death has been a great shock to his famly and host of friends." "Well Known Blind Man Dies Here Last Night. Johnnie Mann Funeral Held At Crow's Funeral Home This Afternoon at Two O'Clock. Johnnie Mann, well-know blind man of Glasgow, died last night at his home following a stroke which he suffered about a week ago. He was 65 years of age. "The funeral services were conducted this afternnon at two o'clock at Crow's Funeral Home, Rev. T. H. Alderson officiating. Burial took place in the Glasgow Cemetery. "None of Mr. Mann's immediate family survives him. A number of nephews and nieces living outside the State survive him. "For many years Mr. Mann was a familiar figure on the streets of Glasgow, having sold fruit and other things for a living. Before his affliction, he was engaged in the hauling business. Forty years ago Johnnie Mann saw the light of day for the last time. Being a grown man at the time he lost his sight, he experienced even more difficulty in becoming adjusted to his handicap than those who go blind earlier in life. In spite of all that, thought, he managed to make a living, and owned his own home which he left unencumbered by debt. Even with the help that people were able to give him, it took a brave soul and a stout heart to battle the trials of life, as he did, in darkness and oft-times in pain." There is no record of his burial there so date is unknown. Found in old scrapbook from an old Glasgow Times newspaper.
