Mansfield, widow of the late Mr. John Mansfield, died at her home three miles from town Tuesday morning last. Mrs. Mansfield had been in declining health for more than six months, and her death was no surprise to those acquainted with her condition. She was sixty-six years of age and had been a member of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church for many years. "The remains were interred in the family burying ground yesterday at 8 o'clock." Unable to locate. "A Metcalfe Soldier Dead. Mr. Morgan Piper, who lived near Randolph, Metcalfe County, and who had been at home on an indefinite leave of absence, died at Augusta, Ga., April 26. Mr. Piper had built himself a snug little home near Randolph and had settled down to enjoy life, but was ordered to report to his command when the Spanish troubles broke out. He served in the regular army through the civil war, and continuously about thirty years, and had seen a great deal of hard service all through the West. At one time he was in the command of the gallant Custer. He died of heart and lung trouble. Mr. Piper had a host of friends through the section of Metcalfe in which he lived who will sincerely regret to hear of his death. He leaves a wife and one child." "Mrs Steffey was the widow of the late Mr. Schuyler Steffey, died at her home at Beech Grove, near Beckton, at 7:30 Sunday night, at the age of sixty-six years, and was childless. "Before her marriage she was Miss Eva Furlong, and is survived by two brothers, Messrs. Sam Furlong of the South Fork country and Tom Furlong of Roseville. "She was born and reared in the section of the county in which she died and was held in the highest esteem, being a devout member of the Baptist church, and was loved by all who knew her. "The funeral was held at Beech Grove church at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon, followed by burial in the cemetery at that place."
