Mrs. R. B. F. TAYLOR     (Sarah GOODE)        Tribute of Respect -  Richardsville, Feb. 23        Our community has just been shocked and caused to go into deep mourning by the death of one of the purest and best women we ever knew.  We allude to Mrs. R. B. F. TAYLOR, where death occurred on the 19th inst., at about the hour of 11 o'clock p.m.  Mrs. Taylor was plain and unpretentious, a stranger to every character of deception, honest in her convictions, true to her principles, decided, free and open in her actions and being endowed with an unusually bright intellect, a strong mind and a heart brimming full of kindness, she was seldom known to err.  She was a faithful and loving wife an affectionate mother, and a good neighbor.  Having been acquainted with her for many years, and lived very near to her for some time, we feel that we can testify truly of her qualities.  She was naturally kind, loving, generous and noble; she had charity in its broadest sense; she possessed preeminently Christian character, without a blemish.  Her society was both pleasant and profitable to those with whom she was associated.  Often have we been made to feel that we were benefited by her association, and very often have our hearts been made glad by her warm friendship and neighborly kindnesses.  She was truly a good woman, and was not only respected but loved by those who knew her.  Notwithstanding her amiable disposition and her almost always pleasant and happy appearance, cousin Sarah had seen much sorrow; she had had many bereavements and suffered much affliction of body.  Through all these troiubles she manifested the most remarkable patience and Christian fortitude.  Her last illness was short and painful, doing its work quickly, but we have never known affliction borne with more patience, nor have we ever witnessed such uncomplaining resignation, such calm submission to what she seemed to know from the first must inevitably terminate her existence; she passed from the scenes of this world into life eternal as calmly and sweetly as a babe reposes in its mother's arms. She had many and unmistakeable evidences of her future happiness.  Those who knew her or witnessed the scenes of her deathbed , will never doubt that cousin Sarah is now enjoying that "rest prepared for thr saints". On Monday, the 21st inst. her remains were taken to the school house next (to) the family residence, where a befitting funeral discourse was delivered by Rev. ____ PRICE of the Christian Church, to a large assemblage of  mourning relatives and friends.  Her body was then consigned to its last resting place in the old family burying ground, there to await the resurrection morn.  Her maiden name was GOODE; she was born Aug. 1st, 1830; married to R. B. F. Taylor, Aug 2d, 1855. They were blessed with seven children, the oldest and youngest of whom are dead;  her husband, three sons and two daughters survive; and with many others mourn her departure.  (Editor:  Democrat please copy.)  _____________________________X-Message: #3 ------------------------------------------------------------ Submitted by Carol Olney, Email Registry ID# Date: Subject: [KYF] DEATH CERT: Jennie M. Mrs. Ellen Coursey GOODRUM was born in Logan County, Kentucky, October 11, 1850, married W. J. GOODRUM, February 23, 1873, and died May 26, 1904. She became a Christian at the age of fourteen and never sullied the cause that she so early espoused. She first united with the Baptist church near her old home in Logan county, but after her marriage united with the C. P. Church at Cold Water, later she joined the M. E. Church, South, at Antioch. This denominational change was caused by environments and not from fickleness or dissatisfaction with creeds, for she was a good, sincere Christian woman who preferred to wield her influence for Christ and the church than hide it under a sectarian bushel. By nature quite modest and unassuming, amiable in disposition and gentle in manners. She possessed a cultivated intellect and in her younger years taught several schools in this and Logan county, but the plain duties of life she did not shirk but cheerfully performed. She was a loving mother, a devoted wife, a faithful Christian and a kind neighbor and will be sadly missed in the home circle, the church, and the community. Her lone illness of seven months was borne with a patience and Christian submission that is worthy of emulation by family and friends. A few days before her death she calmly disposed of her effects and directed the funeral arrangements. She did not fear death and gave bright evidences of faith in the Savior’s sustaining grace and her readiness to obey his call from a bed of suffering to a "haven of rest". She leaves a husband, three daughters several brothers and sisters, and a host of friends to mourn their loss. The shadows in the happy family have longer grown; there’s an empty arm-chair, a gentle voice no longer heard, and a smiling face no longer seen. The husband’s head with grief is bowed, the daughter’s hearts are sad, but God’s love floweth free and we tenderly commend this grief-stricken family to Him, who the cross of suffering bore and who said "I will not leave you comfortless," and "My grace is sufficient for thee." Then weep not for the loved one , gone to join that heavenly band Of glorified souls at the Savior’s right hand; Forever to dwell in bright mansions prepared For the saints, who shall rise from the old church yard. MILLER in Warren county, Kentucky, October 24, 1853.. They came to Benton County in the fall of 1859 and settled near this place, and have lived in and around Lincoln for forty-five years. Sister MILLER professed religion in 1852; joined the M. E. Church, South, in 1854. For over fifty years she has been a consistent Christian and follower of her blessed Lord. After seventy years in this life and fifty-two years in the service of God she has stacked her arms in the church militant and joined the church triumphant. After a long siege of sickness and suffering, on September 9, 1904, she quietly breathed her last and peacefully passed over the river of death until her eternal reward. She leaves an aged companion, one son, a number of relatives and many friends to mourn her departure. But we sorrow not as those who have no hope. Like many of us she loved to live; but when the time came she was ready to die. The writer delivered her funeral discourse to a large concourse of sorrowing friends, and we laid her to rest in the Lincoln cemetery to await the resurrection, when both soul and body shall be re-united, and we shall meet her again in our Father’s house on high, where parting shall be no more and where congregations ne’er break up. "O how sweet it will be in that beautiful land, So free from all sorrow and pain, With songs on our lips and with harps in our hands To meet one another again!" J. A.
