Farewell, Mother Hill! We know you are basking in the sunlight of God’s eternal love, where you can sing throughout eternity, unmolested. Not a sorrow nor a sigh can cross your threshold now; no more will be see your dear old head toss from side to side with pain; but we shall expect to meet you, over yonder on that other shore, with that same Heaven-born smile, that we often saw, to play over your countenance even when on the bed of affliction. We will say to the sorrowing friends and dear relatives and to that dear old husband and father, whose head is already blossomed for eternity, and who has been outstripped in march from time to eternity. "Weep not, ‘tis only a few more years, months, and days, at best when you will meet "Mother Hill" over yonder on that other shore" where she is so free from care and is watching and waiting for you, across the river where "we will never say good-bye in heaven". Just a little longer Father HILL, and you, too, will cross the river and meet that loved one who loved, cared and comforted you while traveling this earthly pilgrimage. You will soon meet her again and hear her say "all is well." "We shall sleep but not forever, There will be a glorious dawn, We shall meet to part, no never On that resurrection morn." - ONE WHO KNEW AND LOVED HER - _____________________________X-Message: #10 ------------------------------------------------------------ Submitted by Martha Lampkin, Email Registry ID# Date: 10 August 2003 Subject: [KYF] OBIT: Bertha Childress, 1969, Warren Co. ------------------------------------------------------------ NOTE: This obituary column, cut from newspapers of the time period, was found pasted in an ancient dust-covered book at a yard sale I attended in Louisville KY.  I'm posting them verbatim in the hopes they will benefit others.  I have no further information and have no connection to any of these names.  I have no additional information on dates, or about which newspapers the original columns were in or the year of publication. On October 13, 1969 the death angel visited the home of Mr. And Mrs. W. E. CHILDRESS, near Richardsville, Ky., and snatched from their bosom their oldest child, Bertha, aged eight years, two months, and twenty-two days. She took pneumonia and lasted only ten days, during which time she was patient and bore her suffering with patience. Bertha was a good child, kind-hearted and of a good disposition. To have known her was to have loved her. While the family will miss her, God chose her to fill the vacancy in yon bright world, that no one else could fill. I would say to the family not to weep, for Bertha has gone to a home not made with hands, eternal in the heavens, where there will be no more parting no more suffering, no more sorrow; where all is joy, peace and love. She told her mamma that she would not get well, and said she would rather go and live with angels. What brightness she showed in a dying hour. "Blessed are they that die in the Lord." Again I would say not to weep, for Bertha has fought a good fight. She has finished her course; henceforth she has gone to enjoy the crown that has been waiting for her." "Darling Bertha, she has left us; Left us, yes, for evermore; But we hope to meet our loved one On that bright and happy shore. Through all pain at times she’d smile, A smile of heavenly birth; And when the angels called her home, She smiled farewell to earth. Heaven retains now our treasure, Earth the lonely casket keeps, And the sunbeams long to linger Where our sainted Bertha sleeps." - L. A.
