Submitted by Rick Girtman December 1, 2002 *************************************************************************** This indenture made the 1st day of September 1828.Witnesseth that Lot Pitman Clerk of the County Court of Laurel, by order of Jarvis Jackson, D. Weaver, Wm. G. Pitman, Benj'n Catching(?) & Thos. Jones, Gentlemen, Justices of Sd. County Court do place & bind Hiram Farris orphan of James Farris aged 12 years the 12th day of January last past, apprentice to William Farris. With him to dwell & him to serve from the date hereof untill the said apprentice Shall arrive at the age of 21 years. During said term he shall Serve his said master faithfully on all Lawful business & Shall honestly & obediently demean himself towards him. And the said William Farris & James Farris his security for themselves,their heirs, & c. doth covenant & agree to & with the sd. Lot Pitman his ______ & Sucessor in office that he the said Hiram Farris as an apprentice in the trade & avocation of farming shall well instruct during the term aforesaid & provide & allow the said apprentice Sufficient meat, drink, apparel, washing, lodging, mending, and all other things fit & necessary for an apprentice & shall teach or cause him to be Taught Reading, Writing, & Arithmetic including the rule of Three & pay him three pounds,ten shilling & a decent suit of new clothes at the expiration of Sd. term of Service.
