Service: Continental (Va) - David Adkinson - Number S35762 Kentucky David Adkinson Lawrence Co., in the State of Kentucky, who was a private in the company commanded by Capt. Laird, of the regiment commanded by Colonel Washington in the Virginia line, for the term of 18 months from the Autumn of 1778 to the Spring of 1780. Inscribed on the Roll of Kentucky at the rate of 8 Dollars per month, to commence on the 21st day of July 1825. Certificate of pension issued the 8th of May, 1826 and sent to J.R. Ward, Esq. Louisa, Ky. Arrears to 4th of March 1826: $59.87 Semi-anl. all'ce ending Sept., 1826: $48.00 Total: $107.87 State of Kentucky Lawrence County Circuit Ct. Be it remembered that at a court --- and held for the Circuit and County of Lawrence on Wednesday the 24th day of July 1825 at the house of Andrew Johnson agreeable to an act of General Assembly in that case make and provided - Present the honorable Silas M Robbins, Circuit Judge. David Adkinson this day produced his declaration and schedule of property which was sworn to in open court and ordered to be recorded and certified to the Secretary of the war department which declaration and schedule is in the words and figures following. To wit: State of Kentucky, Lawrence County Ct. On this day July the 24th 1823 personally appeared in open court, this being ade the court of record by the law of this state, being solemnly adjudged to be so by the other tribunals of this state, with power to fine and imprison, and keeping a record of its proceedings, David Adkinson, aged about sixty nine years, a resident citizen of the county aforesaid, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary war as follows. That he enlisted in or about the year 1777 into the service of the United States against the common enemy for the term of eighteen months in Captain George Wallen company in the 3' Virginia Regiment commanded by Col. Washington, that he served out his full term of enlistment and attained an honorable discharge at Camden Town in South Carolina, that he then immediately enlisted again into the service of the United States for the term of eighteen months under Capt. David Laird's company in the 3' Virginia Regiment commanded by Col. Washington in Virginia on Continental establishment, that he served out his full term of enlistment and was honorably discharged at Guilford courthouse in North Carolina and which he has lost or mislaid; that he was in the following battles, at Gates' defeat, the Battle at Guilford Courthouse, the Battle at Log Cabin and that I, David Adkinson, do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 15th day of March 1818 and that I have not - -- that --- by gift or in any manner dispersed of my property or any part thereof with an intent thereby to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the Land and Naval Service of the United States in the Revolutionary war passed on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me, any property or securities, contracts or debts due me, nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereto and by me subscribed. viz., one cow and calf - $10. Signed, David Adkinson That my family consists of my wife, named Sylvanious, aged about thirty-five years and children aged and named as follows. Enoch, aged about fifteen years, Goolsberry, aged about nine years, Martin aged about six years, Nichallberry aged about three years, Elliot aged about one year, all of which are unable to contribute anything to my support and that I myself from age and infirmary are unable to work and perform my occupation which is that of farmer. That I am at this time with my family living with our other son, with my family depending on him for a support and that it is form my indigent circumstances that I claim the assistance of my country for support. David Adkinson State of Kentucky, Lawrence County Ct. The deposition of Edward Burgess, an old Revolutionary soldier, aged about eighty years taken and sworn to in open court on the 24th day of July 1828, who is a credible witness and whose --- may be relied on, who states that he was well acquainted with David Adkinson, the present applicant, an old Revolutionary in the Revolutionary war that he knew him in the service of the United States, in Capt. David Laird's company as an enlisted soldier in Col. Washington's Regiment under General Gates and that he knew and is confident that the said David Adkinson did serve in the Revolutionary war against the common enemy at least eighteen months under one enlistment and that the deponent always understood that the said David Adkinson was honorably discharged and further this deponent sayeth not. Edward Burgess, July the 24th 1823. The deposition of John Stephens, an old Revolutionary soldier about seventy years of age, who states that he is well acquainted with David Adkinson, an old Revolutionary Soldier, that this deponent knew of the said David Adkinson enlisting in the service of the United States against the common enemy on Continental establishment in the Revolutionary war that this deponent does know that the said David Adkinson did serve in the service of the United States for eighteen months under this enlistment, that the deponent was with the said David Adkinson during the said time and did serve with him in the same company, to wit. Capt. Laird's company in the 3' Virginia Regiment as well as this --- --- commanded by Col. Washington, that this deponent was with the said David Adkinson in the Battle of Guilford courthouse and also in a battle or skirmish at Camden Town in South Carolina, that the deponent does know David Adkinson was honorably discharged at Camden Town in South Carolina, and further this deponent sayeth not. John Stephens On which said deposition is --- the following certificate of Lewis Wellman, one of the Commonwealth Justices of the peace for the county of Lawrence aforesaid. State of Kentucky, Lawrence County Ct. I, Lewis Wellman, a Justice of the peace for said county do hereby certify that the foregoing deposition of John Stephens was this day taken subscribed and sworn to before me and that the said John Stephens is a credible witness whose evidence may be relied on, given under my hand this 24th day of July, 1823. Lewis Wellman. State of Kentucky, Lawrence County Ct. I, Joseph R. Ward, Clerk of county court for the county aforesaid do certify that Lewis Wellman, whose name appears amended to the foregoing certificate is and was at the time of making the same, an acting Justice of the peace, for said county duly commissioned and qualified as such. Given under my hand at office this 24th July, 1823. J.R. Ward, Clk. State of Kentucky, Lawrence County Ct. I, Silas W. Robbins, Circuit Judge for the Eleventh Judicial District composed of the county of Lawrence and others, do hereby certify that the foregoing declaration was sworn to and declared on in open court, the 24th day of July 1823, and that it is the opinion of the court that the value of property contained within schedule is of the value of $10 and no more and it is also the opinion of this court that the applicant, from his indigent circumstances he stands in need of the assistance of his country for support, all of which is ordered to be certified to the Secretary of war. Writing my hand as circuit Judge aforesaid. Silas W. Robbins State of Kentucky Lawrence County I, Joseph R. Ward, Clerk of the Circuit Court for the Circuit and County aforesaid, do certify that Silas W. Robbins, whose name appears amended to the foregoing certificate is and was at the time of making the same, acting Judge of the 11th Judicial district for the State aforesaid, comprised of the counties of Lawrence, Montgomery, Bath, Floyd, Morgan and Pike, duly commissioned and qualified as such according to law. ---- official act due faith and credit is and --- to be given as well --- --- of Justice as thereout. And that Lewis Wellman, whose name appears in the foregoing certificate is and was at the time of making the same, an acting Justice of the peace in and for the county of Lawrence, duly commissioned and qualified as such to --- official act due faith and credit in and ought to be given, as well --- of Justice as thereout. And that the foregoing is truly taken and transcribed whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of my office here, as yet no public seal, this 7th day of January, 1825 and in the 33' year of the Commonwealth.
