October 21, 1990 Charles S. Garland Jr., 63, formerly of Louisville, died Saturday in Baltimore. He was a native of New York City and managing director of Alex. Brown & Sons Inc. in Baltimore, where he worked 36 years. He was a former salesman for Merrill Lynch and a former member of St. Francis of the Fields Episcopal Church and Louisville Country Club. He was a member of the board of governors of the Securities Industry Association and the Elkridge Club, president of the Ausable Club, a board member of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, chairman of the board of the Baltimore Opera Co. and the transportation committee of the Greater Baltimore Committee, a former president of the board of Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital and a former treasurer and member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, all in Baltimore. Survivors: his wife, the former Joan Cardwell of Baltimore; two daughters, Margaret G. Whitman of Lawrenceville, N. J., and Elizabeth G. Wilmerding of Glyndon, Md.; a son, Charles S. Garland III of New York City; his mother, Aurelia S. Garland of Baltimore; two sisters, Courtney G. Iglehart and Aurelia G. Bolton, both of Brooklandville, Md.; and two grandchildren. The funeral was Tuesday in Baltimore.
