Carter Coroner: Unavailable Informant: John Paul Skeens Date Of Burial: January 18, 1957 Place Of Burial: Lycan Cemetery, Fort Gay, Wayne, West Virginia Date Recorded: Unavailable Source Of Record: Kentucky, U.S., Death Records, 1852-1965 Certificate No.: 57-1161 SKEENS, Paul 1891-1957 Paul (Pete) Skeens, 65, of Fort Gay, WV, a retired employee of the West Virginia Coal & Coke Company, succumbed in a local hospital, Tuesday night at 10:30 p.m. following an illness of nine days. The deceased had resided in Fort Gay since his retirement five years ago. Prior to that he lived at Omar, WV for 20 years. He was born May 10, 1891, and was a son of the late Granville and Louvenia Skeens. Funeral rites will be conducted Friday, January 18, at 2 p.m. from the Tabors Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. G. D. Stamper and the Rev. Lee Fraley officiating. Burial will be made in the Lycan Cemetery route 1, Fort Gay. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Norma Saulsbury Skeens, to whom he had been married 40 years; one daughter, Mrs. Elvin Cook, of Michigan, one son, Paul Skeens, of Chauncey, WV; two sisters, Mrs. Hilda Dean of Kenova, WV, Mrs. Bradley Wellman, route 1, Fort Gay; one half-sister, Mrs. Maggie Akers, Huntington; two brothers, Frank Skeens, Prichard, WV and James Skeens, Fort Gay; and one half-brother, Charley Fortney of Florida. The body will remain at the Curtright Funeral Home, Louisa, until 1 p.m. Friday when it will be taken to the church for services.
