Young, 75, optometrist and former Lawrence County coroner, died at his home June 28 at 3:15 p.m. after an illness of five months. He moved to Louisa 46 years ago, and had operated a jewelry store and practiced optometry until he became ill. He was Lawrence County’s coroner for many years. Born at Blaine, KY, August 9, 1874, he was the son of Allen and Frances Ann Turner Young. He had been a member of the Methodist Church for 50 years. His wife, Mrs. Delphia Curnette Young, died in 1940. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. J. C. Hager and the Rev. E. P. Swann officiating. Burial was in the Pine Hill Cemetery here. Funeral arrangements were handled by Young Funeral Home. Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. Floyd Vanmeter of Louisa and Mrs. James H. Caldwell of South Charleston, OH, a sister, Mrs. Walter McKenzie of Columbus, OH, three brothers, Jay S. Young, Sr., of Catlettsburg, Thomas H. Young of Ashland and A. B. Yong of Kenova, WV and two grandchildren.
