Newton Sr., 80, of Richmond, died Saturday, May 28, 2005, at Beverly-Golden Rule after a long illness. He was born Sept. 3, 1924, in Heidelberg, Ky., to Tidus and Della Smith Newton and lived here most of his life. He retired from Hill's Roses after working 40 years as a foreman. Survivors include his three children, Charles E. Newton Jr. and Tammy Talbot of Richmond and Jamie Newton of Fountain City; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Newton of Richmond and James Luther Newton of Webster; two sisters, Dinah Moore of Liberty and Calla Mae York of Richmond; nieces and nephews. His wife of 56 years, Martha, died June 17, 2001. Two brothers, Virgil and Neal Newton, and two sisters, Ann Jackson and Llian Thomas, are also deceased. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Rev. Martin Gehring officiating. Burial will be in Elkhorn Cemetery.
