Death came at 8:30 o'clock Monday (September 2, 1946) morning just 14 hours after he was stricken. Having been enjoying comparatively good health, the suddeness of Mr. Jones' death was received with sincere regret throughout the entire county where he has been revered as an honorable man of personal integrity. Mr. Jones operated the Kinniconick Hotel for nearly 20 years and was known far and wide for his enterprise and sincere interest in making the resort one of the finest in the state. He was also postmaster of the Kinniconick community and operated a general store there. He was born and reared in this county. Note: Lawrence Jones was born July 6, 1891 The above obit. is from a newapaper clipping that was probably from the Sept. 5, 1946, edition of the Lewis County Herald, Vanceburg, KY. Local sportsmen were shocked last week when they learned of the death of Lawrence Jones, owner and operator of the Kinniconick Hotel near Vanceburg. A true sportsman himself, Lawrence was ever a friend of the sportsman. At any hour of the day or night he stood ready and willing to serve. Food and lodging were always provided for his outdoor friends, and in countless other ways did he make his mark, not always for monetary gain, but also out of sincere sportsmanship. His passing will be strongly felt by those of us who so often have felt his warm handshake, ate his food and slept in this beds. We will miss his broad warm smile, and the friendly helpful advise he gave us about hunting and fishing. We will miss Lawrence Jones but we can never forget him. As long as the Kinniconick flows between the hills of Lewis County, that long will the memory of Lawrence live. Mr. Jones, long in failing health, suffered a stroke last Sunday evening and died early Monday. Burial services were held at the little church near his home last Wednesday, and interment was made in the McEldowney Cemetery on Kinniconick. Evidence of his popularity was expressed by the nearly four hundred persons gathered around the church for the funeral. Our kindest expressions of sympathy are exteneded to his beloved wife and family. The above is from the Daily Independent, Ashland, KY, Sept. 8, 1946
