BIOGRAPHY: BARNETT, Capt. Robert - Lincoln County, Kentucky From: Susan White Date: 25 May 1998 Capt. Robert Barnett. Barnett moved into Lincoln county Kentucky from Virginia about 1778 and settled first at Bell's Station in what is now Madison county Kentucky. There were indian uprisings in that area so he moved on to settle Barnett's Station, which is at the ford of Hanging Fork Creek and the Dix River. He was buried there in 1834. We have copies of Robert's rejected Revolution War pension number R538. His children were trying to collect. In the deposition of Benjamin Briggs he states that Robert was Capt. under Benjamin Logan on the expedition to the Blue Licks and that Benjamin Briggs was in Capt. Barnett's Company. That they arrived at Blue Licks on the 20th (of March 1781?) and aided in the burying of the dead and received a credit for a months tour. In the deposition of Abraham Estes he states that he became acquainted with Capt. Robert Barnett in the month of March 1781. That he subsequently in March and April 1782 served a months tour of duty under Capt. Robert Barnett to the falls of the Ohio River and aided in erecting a fort. Estes also stated that he knew Capt Barnett was at the burying of the dead after the battle of Blue Licks. He also remembered Barnett being on General Clark's two month campaign against the Pickaway (the principle town of the Shawnee Indians) in October and November 1782. Robert Barnett had five children that we know about, namely; Ann, Hannah, William P., Robert Jr., and Elizabeth. We know William P. was married but do not know to whom. My line is through Elizabeth who married Benjamin May in Lincoln in 1813. We believe the other children were unmarried. ********************************************************* USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities as long as this message remains on all copied material.
