Capt. John Simpson, Lawyer and Soldier, settled in Lincoln County, Kentucky, at 
a very early day, and was a native of Virginia. He first appears in the annals 
of Kentucky, and the border wars, in 1794, under Gen. Wayne, at the battle of 
Fallen Timbers. He subsequently located in Shelbyville; studied law, and 
acquired considerable prominence in his profession. He was elected to the 
Legislature from Shelby County, in 1806; was several time re-elected, and, in 
1811, was Speaker of the House. In 1812, he was elected to Congress; and, at 
the breaking out of the second war with England, entered the regiment of Col. 
John Allen, as captain of a company, and went to the re-enforcement of General 
Hall, at Detroit. He fell, bravely fighting by the side of Col. Allen, at the 
river Raisin.
