D., was born December 21, 1828, on the line between Lincoln and Garrard Counties, and was a son of William and Elizabeth (Jackman) Huffman, to whom five sons and five daughters were born and reared, William being the youngest. William Huffman, Sr., was born in Garrard County, Ky.; he was a leading farmer and breeder of fine Rice [sic] horses; the only official position he ever held was that of justice. He died in 1867, aged eighty-two years, a member of the Christian Church; he was a stanch Whig. He was a son of Frederick Huffman who came from Virginia, and was among the first pioneers of Garrard County; his father, in turn, came from Germany. Elizabeth (Jackman) Huffman was born near Lancaster, Garrard County, and was a daughter of John Jackman, who moved his family on horseback over the mountains to Garrard County, and was one of the earliest pioneer farmers. Dr. William Huffman was reared on a farm until a lad of ten years, when his father moved to Stanford; here William attended school, and at the age of twenty commenced the study of medicine with a brother; graduated from the medical department of the University of Louisville in the spring of 1854, and commenced his practice in Stanford. In 1858 he attended the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York; in the winter of 1865 attended a course of medical lectures in New York; is a member of the Central Kentucky Medical Association, of which he has served as president. The Doctor has a large and extended practice, and has been very successful in his profession, ranking among the leading physicians of the State. March, 1859, he was united in marriage to Kate Cook of Lincoln County, daughter of Moses and Sallie (Robison) Cook, who were born in Lincoln and Garrard Counties, respectively. The Doctor and wife have had born to them six children, four living: Sallie (now Young), Lizzie, Fannie and Bruce. The Doctor and wife are members of the Christian Church. In politics he was a Whig until 1860; since then has affiliated with the Democratic party.
