OBITUARY: POWELL, Frank Wells - Lincoln County, Kentucky Date: 16 November 2003 Submitted By: Sherri Hall http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00001.html#0000051 From the Danville Advocate Messenger, 3 Dec 2002 MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- Frank Wells Powell, 73, of Louisville, Tenn., died Sunday at his home. Born Dec. 15, 1928, in Stanford, he was the son of the late R.M. and Mary Letha Powell. He was a deaf educator and administrator, having taught at Kentucky School for the Deaf and other schools, and served as director of Callier Speech and Hearing Center in Dallas, Texas. He was a speaker and consultant on deaf education issues. He received a bachelor's degree from Centre College and a master's degree from Galludet University. He also was an Air Force veteran, having served as a navigator in the Korean War. Survivors include his adopted son, Mark Oppie of Louisville, Tenn.; two sisters, Peggy Murphy of Nicholasville and Mary Roberts of Louisville, Tenn.; and a brother, Josh Powell of Atlanta, Ga. A memorial service was held today in Maryville. A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford.
