Smith, 89, of Stanford died Sunday at Stanford House nursing home. Born Dec. 21, 1912, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Lula Gifford Frederick. She was a homemaker and a member of New Salem Baptist Church. She was the widow of Clarence Smith. Survivors include two sons, Bill Smith of Toomb's Hollow and Cecil "Chuck" Smith of Stanford; four daughters, Myrtle Hazlett of South Fork, Velma Ollish of Waynesburg, and Kaye Reichenback and Anita Brown, both of Stanford; a brother, Coleman Frederick of Commiskey, Ind.; a sister, Ella Coffey of McKinney; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Florence Sawyer, and three sons, Virgil, Roy and Ronnie Smith. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by G.W. Smith. Burial will be in New Salem Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are granddaughters. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today.
