Wells Vick Miss Mary Nelle Lyne is one of four to whom this history is dedicated. She is the great niece of Nimrod Long of whom much has been made mention in connection of Bethel College and the Russellville Baptist Church. She is the daughter of Mr. Seldon Lyne and wife, nee Bettie Trimble; a granddaughter of Rev. Seldon Y. Trimble and wife nee Mary Morehead, who were missionaries to Africa. A sketch will be given in connection with this biography relative to Miss Mary's grand parents. Miss Mary Nelle was born in the New Union Baptist Church section of Logan County, Kentucky. At an unusually tender age she was converted and baptized into this church, which had sent her grandparents many years prior to Africa as missionaries. She attended Logan College in Russellville, Ky. where she graduated; her parents had removed to Russellville where their children could have educational advantages. She was very active in the Russellville Church. She organized the first Young Woman's Auxiliary in this church and was its first president. Feeling the call of greater service for her Lord, she entered the Woman's Missionary Training School in Louisville, Ky. where she graduated. This school is now known as the Carver School of Missions and is connected with the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. She was for ten years in Shanghai, China where she was principal of a Girl's Elementary and High School of 500 students and with twenty Chinese teachers. In her own words, "Sometimes I was the only American and sometimes there was one co-worker." She was the State Executive Secretary of Kentucky Woman's Missionary Society Training School in Louisville for five years. Following this she was appointed by the Baptist Home Board to open work in Berkley, California and worked there for five years. Miss Lyne returned to Kentucky in 1951 and makes her home with her sister, Mrs. D. W. Browning, at 1112 Chestnut St. Bowling Green, Ky. She is very much in demand as teacher of mission study classes and as guest speaker in various churches.
