Rev. Leonard Page - information is taken from Spencer's History of Kentucky
Baptists. Rev. Page was born in Goochland Co. Va. Sept. 29, 1762. He was a
member of the Licking Hole Baptist Church. At the age of Sixteen he joined the
Continental Army in Virginia. He was married to Jenny Hodges, daughter of
Jonathan Hodges. She was reared an Episcopalean [sic], but sometime after her
marriage she professed conversion and united with the Licking Hole Baptist
Church. Her husband soon followed her example. It was in this church that Rev.
Page was ordained to the ministry and later became its pastor until 1811 when he
resigned his charge and moved to Kentucky. He settled on Whippoorwill Creek,
about seven miles West of Russellville, in Logan Co. This community had been
settled some twenty years prior; but there had been some extensive religious
revivals among the people, the Baptist cause had been neglected for want of
laborers. Mr. Page united with the little church on Muddy River something like
ten miles from his residence. He soon raised up a church at Russellville and
became its first pastor where he continued as such until 1821 when Rev. William
Warder became their pastor. Mr. Page organized several churches among which were
Union, Mt. Gilead at Allenville, and Pleasant Grove in the Southern part of the
county. He died from the effects of cholera March 27, 1836. His home was located
in the Ferguson section and on the Russellville - Clarksville Highway.
