MARRIAGE: MYRICK & BURROUGHS 1838, Logan County KY Contributed by Cindy Clowe Lacy celacy@aol.com Date: 12 Aug 2002 Myrick & Burroughs Contract This indenture made and entered into this 15th day of October 1838 between Mr. Reuben Myrick merchant of the county of Logan and state of Kentucky in the one part and wife Maria Louisa Burroughs late of the county of Allen and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that whereas the said Reuben Myrick and M.L. Burroughs have agreed and solemnly intend to become united together in wedlock as man and wife and whereas the said Maria L. Burroughs is now or may hereafter become entitled to a part of the estate of her father Frances Burroughs of Vicksburg Mississippi or other relations or friends and whereas the said R. Myrick may hereafter become involved with difficulties of a pecuniary nature in consequence of being engaged in mercantile pursuits and thereby have the estate of said Maria L. Burroughs taken from ____ agree and contract as follows: That of all property of inherited nature ____ Burroughs _____ the said Maria L. Burroughs is now or hereinafter entitled to from the sources there named or any of them shall be held sacred to the use, comfort and accommodation of the said Maria L. Burroughs and her lawful heirs and not to be subject to the payment of any debt indemnity whatever which may now be standing against the said R. Myrick or which may hereafter be contended for the use comfort and happiness of the said Maria L. Smith State of Kentucky Allen County I Samuel Swearigen, clerk of the term of the County Court for the county aforesaid certify that this marriage contract between Reuben Myrick and Maria Louisa Burroughs was produced to me in my office on the 15th day of October 1838 and was acknowledged by the said Reuben Myrick to be his act and deed. And on the same day the signature of Maria L. Burroughs was proven by the oaths of John W. Smith and M. H. Smith to be the act and deed of said M.L. Burroughs for the purposes therein mentioned. And the same together with the foregoing certificate hath been duly admitted to records in my office. Given under my hand this 15th October 1838.
