Grimes Will Logan Co KY 5 Sept 1850 In the name of God amen I John H Grimes of thie County of Logan & State of Kentucky being of Sound mind and disposing memory do this 5th day of September make in the year of our lord one thousand Eight hundred & fifty one [1851] make and ordain this my last Will and Testament as follows (viz) --- First I desire that all my Just debts shall be paid. Secondly I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth V Grimes my Gold watch and two thousand Dollars unto her and her children forever. Thridly I direct nominate Constitute and appoint my Brother James T. Grimes Trustee & Guardian to my Daughter Elizabeth V Grimes I do hereby acknowledge and Recognize the Girl Caled [Caba ?}Betsy (sic) or Elizabeth my Child and legal heir at Law as tho she was born free and clear in every aspect whatsoever & it is my Will and desire she shall heir [have] my estate & be free and Set at Liberty in every aspect as the Law requires in such cases & I desire and Request that my Brother James T. Grimes Shall take charge of her & her Estate or property & manag (sic) it in Such a way maner (sic) as Shall be best for her & her interest & advantage. he Shall have full Power and authority to sell any part or portion of her Estate Real or personal as in his Judgement may think best & appropriate the proceed to Educating Raising & maintaining her as may be necessary and have her Educated & Brought up in (sic) Some one of the free or non slave-holding State and let her remain their (sic) if necessary in either and of them as he Shall think best for her advantage our(sic) & use all necessary means and Case to promote her interest until She Marries or arrives at the age of twenty one years old at that time she shall be entitled to --- and receive-- all of Estate that I have given her or left in Trust either in the hands of a Guardian or Trustee or any others & I Forthly I give unto my Brother James T Grimes the Sum of Five hundred Dollars provided he qualifes & carries into Effect this my last Will and I hereby requested & within described and Shall he fail to qualify & he shall not be entitled to nor receive the Said Legacy of five hundred dollars it shall direct back to my daughter Elizabeth & I direct and Request the Court Shall direct back to my daughter Elizabeth & I direct and Request the Court Shall appoint her a Guardian or Trustee and the Law may direct who Shall receive - all of the estate I have left & this & all this may be entitled to also take charge of her and have her Raised Educated & Brought up as I have hereby directed or as the law Shall require in Such Cases. Who Shall act for her until She Marries or arrives at the age of twenty one years old at to such time She Shall be entitled to and receive her Estate. (above: in here was this can't find the place for it now ---all of the Estates I have left) Fifthly I Give and bequeath to my nefews (sic) Robert Wanes? and John H Grimes each two hundred & fifty dollars. I also give to John my Shot Gun I also give unto my neaces (sic) Mary A and Susan Grimes each two hundred fifty Dollars to them for ever. I also give and bequeth unto my Said Daughter Betsy or Elizabeth all of the balance of my Estate not already disposed of Real and Personal & Perishable also my interest in my Mothers Estate together with all my undivided interest in the negreoes land (into unto) my Mother under the Last Will & Testament of her father Thomas Veale of the County Bartie (sic)[Bertie] & State of North Carolina unto her and her children forever but should my Said Daughter Elizabeth Die leaving no Child or children or before She marries or comes at the age of twenty one years old I give all of the Estate I have given unto her then Remaining or lands to the children of my Brother James T Grimes except two hundred and fifty Dollars that Sum I give to my neace Elizabeth B. Small, I ___ at my Execuctor hereafter named Shall have full power and authroity to sell any part of my Estate Real or personal he in this Judgent (sic) may think best or necessary for the for the benefit of my Daughter Elizabeth at his discretion (sic) Lastly I nominate Constitute and Appoint my Brother James T.
