Subject: JUDGE THOMAS UNDERWOOD OBIT DEATH COMES TO J.T.UNDERWOOD HERE TUESDAY Had been resident of eddyville 34 years;masons in charge of rites Eddyville lost one of its best known and most highly repected citizens in the death of J.T. Underwood which occurred at the residence here on Tuesday morning, June 4. Though he had been in ill health for some time he had remained active and the news of his death came as a surprise and shock to most of his fellow townsmen. Mr. Underwood, who was 67 years of age, came to Eddyville from cayce, Fulton county Kentucky, in 1912, as a guard at the state prison. Later he was employed by the Worthy Manufacturing Co, whe these factories operated inside prisom walls. During the last few years he had been reemployed as a guard at the institution and had remained on duty until last friday when he was stricken ill while at work. Mr. Underwood had long been a member of Joppa Lodge also a member of the WOW lodge. Survivors are four children:Mrs. Bernie Oliver,Luby and Lendon underwood, of Madisonville, and Mrs. Ray Farmer of Princeton; three sisters, Mrs. W.O. Munday, Cairo,Ill.;Mrs.W.L. Sammons of Mt. Vernon,Ill.;Mrs.W.L. Sweat of Memphis, Tenn. and several grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at Eddyville Baptist church Wednesday afternoon by the Rev. L.J.Knoth, assisted by th Rev. W.B.Ladd the pastor. At the close of religious services, the Masomic Order took charge and rendered the last tribute of respect. Burial was in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Honorary pallbears:C.J.
