C. HEATH, M. D., a leading physician of Richmond, was born March 26, 1845, in Lancaster County, S. C. and is a son of Moses C. and Mary (Morrow) Heath, who were born in South Carolina in 1806 and 1909 respectively and had a family of eleven sons and four daughters, twelve of whom were reared. Moses C. Heath was a leading cotton planter, and died in 1866; his wife is still living in good health. He, in turn, was a son of Moses C. Heath, who married a Miss Chapel, both natives of Virginia, and of English descent. The family were all planters as far as known. The Doctor was reared on a plantation and received a good English education. In 1862 he enlisted in Company I, Seventeenth South Carolina Infantry; and in Gen. N. G. Even's command; as in the Jackson (Miss.) campaign, Bermuda Hundred and Petersburg, Va.; also in the battle of Five Forks, and at the surrender at Appomattox. After the surrender he returned to South Carolina where he remained two years; then he went to Georgia; in 1868 he located in Lexington, Ky., and commenced the study of medicine with Dr. Sweeney. He attended his first course of lectures in Louisville, and graduated from Bellevue, New York City, in 1871, and immediately located in Camilla, Ga. In 1874 he located in Richmond, Ky., where he has continued to practice with success. He is one of the active members of the State Medical Association, also of the Madison County Association. He was united in marriage in December, 1872, to Mary Emery, a daughter of Zalton and Martha (Fostes) Emery. The issue of this marriage was seven children, four living: Nannie C., Flora H., Moses C. and J. J. The Doctor and wife are members of the Presbyterian and Christian Churches. The Doctor is a member of the F.& A.M., and in politics is a Democrat.
