All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ky/kyfiles.html ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Nancy Poquette npoq@hotmail.com March 18, 2007, 2:52 pm Pension Application Of Edward Williams, Nat’l Archives Series M804, Roll __, Application #W9116 State of Kentucky, Madison County} “The rites of marriage celebrated between Edward Williams and Elizabeth Hopper, February 12th, 1789, by me, Christopher Harris.” Madison County, KY} On this 5th day of May, 1852, personally appeared before me, Asa Smith, a justice of the peace within and for the county and state aforesaid, Nancy Hawkins, who being first duly sworn according to law on her oath makes the following declaration, to wit: That she is the daughter of Edward Williams, deceased, who was a captain of the North Carolina militia, and served several years, as she believes, in that capacity in the War of the Revolution, and of Elizabeth Williams, his wife, both now deceased. That the said Edward Williams and Elizabeth, her father and mother, were married in Madison County, Kentucky in the year 1789. That her said father died in the year 1791and that her said mother afterwards intermarried with one Mathias Lambert, who died in the year 1836, leaving said Elizabeth, this affiant’s mother a widow, who did not again marry, but died on the 10th of June, 1851. She further states that her said mother at her decease, left surviving her, besides this affiant, who is the only surviving child by the said Edward Williams and the children by said Mathias Lambert, to wit: Solomon Lambert and John Lambert, and who, with this declarant are the only surviving children of the said Elizabeth Lambert, former widow of Edward Williams, deceased. She makes this supplement declaration for the purpose of obtaining for herself and any other parties entitled the pension due her said mother at her decease under the Act of July 7th, 1838 and of any other acts or resolutions of Congress. She further states that she believes that the only reason her said mother did not apply for a pension in her lifetime was that she did not know that she was entitled to a pension as the widow of said Edward Williams after having married the 2nd time, especially as said Lambert, her 2nd husband, was a pensioner and she drew a small pension as his widow, and that she makes this supplement statement in Madison County to save trouble and cost, instead of Estill County, KY, her place of residence. Estill County, Kentucky} On this 31st day of March, 1852, personally appeared before me, Jeptha Winburn, an acting justice of the peace in and for the county and state aforesaid, Nancy Hawkins, aged 62 years, a resident of this county, who being duly sworn according to law, doth on her oath, make the following declaration…: That she is the only living child of Edward Williams and Elizabeth Williams, deceased, who were residents of Madison County, Kentucky. That her aforesaid father, Edward Williams was an officer in the army of the Revolution for several years. She thinks he was a captain and was of the North Carolina militia She has often heard his services in the Army of the Revolution spoken of by many persons. Her aforesaid father and mother were married in the year 1789 in the county of now Madison and state of Kentucky, and that her aforesaid father died in the year of 1791, and her aforesaid mother then married Mathias Lambert who died in the year 1836, she believes, and her aforesaid mother died on the 10th of June 1851. She most respectfully asks the Honorable Commissioner of Pensions to consider her claim under the aforesaid Acts of Congress to be allowed the certificate _____ the same be included to her attorney James M. Smith of Mt. Vernon, KY, or J. J. Combs. Nancy Hawkins, her mark. County of Rockcastle, state of Kentucky} On this, the 6th day of April, 1852, personally appeared before me, Samuel Williford, one of the acting justices of the peace for the county and state aforesaid, Solomon Lambert, a resident of the county and state aforesaid, aged 53 years, who being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration or statement on his oath: That Elizabeth Lambert, the wife of Edward Williams, deceased, of Madison County, Kentucky, his mother, died on the 10th of June, 1851, in the County of Madison and state of Kentucky. That his mother, Elizabeth Lambert above mentioned, was the former wife of Edward Williams, deceased, of Madison County, Kentucky. That said Williams was reputed to have been a captain of the Revolutionary War from the state of North Carolina. That his said mother had but one child by the said Edward Williams. That the said Williams was reputed to have died or drowned years since. That his father, Mathias Lambert died upwards of 10 years since. That he was present and seen him decease. Solomon Lambert, his mark. County of Rockcastle, state of Kentucky} On this, the 25th day of June, 1852 personally appeared before me, Thomas Smith, one of the acting justices of the peace for the county and state aforesaid, Andrew Lambert [error by court clerk. See signature below], a resident of this county, aged 66 years who being duly sworn according to law, declares on his oath that he was well acquainted with Elizabeth Lambert, deceased, of Madison County, Kentucky, former wife of Edward Williams, deceased, who was reputed to have been a captain in the Revolutionary War from the state of North Carolina. That said Edward Williams died in the year 1791, as he has always been informed, and that the aforesaid Elizabeth Lambert died on the 10th day of June, 1851, and that Mathias Lambert, husband of the aforesaid Elizabeth, died in the year 1836, and that the only surviving heirs by Edward and Elizabeth Williams now living is Nancy Hawkins, and the only surviving heirs by Mathias Lambert and Elizabeth Lambert are Solomon Lambert and John Lambert. That the aforesaid Williams and wife was married in the County of Madison and state of Kentucky sometime in 1789, as he has always been informed, and that the said Nancy Hawkins is now applying for a pension on account of her father’s services as a captain in the Revolutionary War, and from reputation, said Williams was a captain in the North Carolina militia.
