The Hannibal Journal January 27, 1848
Col. Caperton of Richmond, Ky., who killed Mr. Pittman of that place on the 
8th inst., has been discharged by the court of inquiry which investigated the 
case.  From the evidence it appeared that Mr. Pittman was the assailant and 
Col. C. acted in self-defense.
