He had been a patient there since Apr. 1. Mr. Jordan resided with a daughter, Mrs. Daisy Hawkins. They lived here some 16 years at 205 McLain St. When their Dayton home was razed in 1960 in the urban renewal program, they moved to 105 Center St., Germantown. Born in Madison county, Ky., Mr. Jordan was a Dayton resident 30 years, having moved here in 1932. Reared on a farm, he himself had been a farmer and a blacksmith. In Dayton he worked as a carpenter and handyman before retiring at 83. Mr. Jordan was an avid home gardener until forced by delclining health this year to curtail all labor. His eyesight remained relatively strong and he kept abreast of current events via television. In annual interviews through his latter years, he was quick to quip, expressing positive convictions on politics, world affairs, and numerous other subjects. At 98, underwent major sugery, one of the oldest persons in Dayton history to do so. But in two weeks he was home and back on his feet. In 1953 he became a widower for the third time. As long as his strength permitted, Mr. Jordan enjoyed a daily constitutional and games with grandchildren. Longevity was characteristic of his family. One of his sisters lived to be 107, another 101. A brother reached 104. But his own long life Mr. Jordan attributed variously to good food, adequate sleep, exercise and willpower. He also gave some credit to refusal torry, staying good-natured, minded one's own business and "being in your home and just plain being happy."
