A Codicil to the Will.

I will and desire that my wife, Anna Embry, shall have
for life my negro woman, Tempe, and her child,
William, and others the woman may have hereafter. The
above is in place of the boy, Sam, heretofore given to
my wife for life, and Sam is at my death, to be sold
and the proceeds to go to my estate then to be
divided. May 5, 1854

State of Kentucky, Madison County, Sct:

At the County Court held for said county on 22nd day
of November 1856 the foregoing instrument of writing
with the codicil thereto attached  purporting to be
the last Will and Testament of Joel Embry , decease,
was produced in open Court and said instrument was
proven in due form by the oaths of James De Jarnett, a
subscribing witness thereto and on the 25th day of
November 1856 at the same Court cont. and held as
aforesaid, said instrument of writing was also proven
by oath of Burrel Million another witness thereto and
said codicil was also proven by oaths of Isaac D.
Smith, a witness thereto who likewise proved that
James W. Clark and William W. Boyd, the other witness
to said Codicil attested the same in his presence and
at the request of said  Joel Embry, deceased.
Whereupon said instrument of writing and Codicil were
ordered to be recorded as the last Will and Testament
of said deceased, which accordingly was done.
