Biography, CONLEY, JESSE FRANKLIN Magoffin County, Ky 2004 Submitted by: Joe Conley Joe_Conley@HMIS.ORG *********************************************************************** JESSE FRANKLIN CONLEY Jesse Conley was the last of 9 children born to John Wallis and Rhoda E. (Caudill) Conley. John W. and his family made their home in the Falcon community. John W. had several parcels of land and later in his life he had his surviving children draw straws for what parcel they would inherit at that time. The only child who did not do so was their only daughter, Mattie Jane Conley. She would automatically be gifted the home located on Maple Street in Salyersville. Aunt Mattie remained there almost up until her death in May 1978. Jesse's straw provided him the home located in Falcon. He and his family made their home there. Jesse was married to Chrystal Lemaster, a daughter of Henry "App" and Nora (Prater) Lemaster. Jesse and Chrystal had 4 sons: Roy Hansel Conley, Ray Winfred Conley, John Henry Conley and Challis Peyton Conley. The only surviving son is Roy, who lives in Lorain, Ohio. Jesse worked as a chaufffer for Smith Adams, farmed and worked the oil lease on Horse Pen. During the war he worked in a factory in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He also ran a store, the Jesse Conley Grocery, on the homeplace property in Falcon. At the time of his death in September 1963 he was employed by Ashland Oil. He was cranking a pump located on Mash Fork when he suffered a fatal heart attack at age 61, from the strain of cranking it.
