Biography, Risner, Leslie Magoffin County, Ky June 2003 Submitted by: Sharon Cornell kay2000@myexcel.com *********************************************************************** This story was also told to me by Lee Risner's daughter Pearl Risner Hopkins, about her Uncle Leslie Risner. Leslie's wife Manda died young and Leslie remarried. His three children were raised by their grandparents Johnson and Susan Risner, per Pearl Risner Hopkins. This info told to me by Pearl Risner Hopkins in 1994 Pearl told me Leslie's first wife Amanda Risner was a sister to Lee Risner's first wife Polly. Amanda died young leaving three children. Leslie remarried May 19 1913 to Cordie "Cora" Spradlin at the home of George W Spradlin. The marriage was performed by Grandpaw Johnson Risner and witnessed by George Marshall and Marshall Risner. Pearl said when we were toddlers, their Uncle Leslie was a mean boy. He was the meanest kid ever. He would run up when I was getting wood, and stick his toes in the wood. I had my ax drawed up and I couldn't hold the ax, and down it went and cut the whole toe of his shoe off. He said you little fool, you cut the toe of my shoe off. I asked him why he held his foot under the wood for. Pearl said that her Uncle Leslie and wife had a baby. It was cold and they put the baby in bed with them to keep it warm, and sometime one of them rolled over and took the covers with them, and the baby froze to death. When they woke up the baby was dead. Pearl was 91 years old when she told me these stories, she could have been a little mixed up on the facts. Pearl told me Leslie was only 39 years old when he died She said he got baptism and the Holy Ghost, and said Leslie's sister was in a asylum, and Leslie got on a train to go see his sister. When Leslie got on the train, he started preaching and saying to everyone on the train if you don't get the baptism and holy ghost you will all go to hell. They tried to get the conductor to put Leslie off the train. The conductor said Leslie was telling the truth, and would not put him off the train. Leslie said he was going to get his sister and take her home, and he did. This is what I am not real sure about, I have never been able to prove this. Pearl said Leslie was shot and killed. Joyce Comer, Granddaughter of Leslie told me these stories about her gram pa. Leslie Risner's son, Tolbert was riding home one night on his horse, when he was 18 years old. He was drunk and passed out and fell off his horse and froze to death. She said her grampa was a Huckster and preformed funerals sometimes. Leslie was gone from home a lot. One time when Leslie was married to Cora, He came home and tried to take their three year old son, Elmer with him on one of his trips. Leslie put Elmer on his horse and Cora put up a fight and would not let Elmer go. Joyce also said that when Leslie died, he owned land in Ky with coal on it, and said some family member got the land away from Leslie. Cora also said that no one in the Risner family would help her with her children, after Leslie died, so she stayed in Ohio. Leslie and his second wife, Cordie are buried in the Preston Cemetery, Marion twp., Hardin Co Oh.
