Obits: Prater, Mahala Adams 1882 - 1954 Magoffin County, KY June 2003 Submitted by ;Donnie Hazel donniehazel@hotmail.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prater, Mahala Adams Died: September 28, 1954 Local Resident, Mahala Prater Dies Sept. 28 1954 Mrs. Mahala Prater 72, died in a local hospital Tuesday, September 28, 1954 following a long illness Her death was attributed to a stroke. Born July 24, 1882 in Magoffin County, She was the daughter of the late John and Sarah Crace Adams. She had been a resident of Paintsville for the past 43 years. Mrs. Prater was also a member of the Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late, Wilbur H Prater son of Leander Cox Prater and Margaret Lourinda Morton of Magoffin County. She is survived by two sons, Paul Prater, city, and Ernest Prater Springville, Ohio. Also surviving are four brothers; John T Adams, William Adams, Ben Whitt, Wheelersburg, Ohio and Walter Whitt of Williamson, West Virginia. Funeral Services were conducted Thursday at the Third Street Freewill Baptist Church with the Reverends Claude Preston, Homer Willis, and W.F. Pettus officiating. Burial was made in the Gardner Cemeteryin Salyersville under the direction of the Jones and Preston Funeral Home.
