Obits: Shepherd, Homer 1918 - 1995 Magoffin County, KY Submitted by ; Gwen Shepherd 021152b@foothills.net ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Homer Shepherd, 77, of Gunlock died September 4,1995, at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg. He was born June 20, 1918, in Floyd County, the son of the late Grover and Darkie Allen Shepherd. A retired coal miner, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was also a member of the United Baptist Church. He was married to Beatrice Allen Shepherd, who survives. Survivors also include five daughters, Darcus Lovely of Waldo, Janice Faye Fitzpatrick of Royalton, Debbie Thompson of Prestonsburg, Carol Shepherd of Gunlock, and Elisha Hylton of Lambric; six sons, Homer Shepherd Jr. of Waldo, Arbria Shepherd of Stockbridge, Michigan, Bill Shepherd of Salyersville, Robert Shepherd of Waldo, Virgil Shepherd of Salyersville, and Johnny Shepherd of David; one sister, Barbara Wireman of Michigan; three brothers, Berlin Shepherd of Fredville, Press Shepherd of Indiana and Bryon Shepherd of Florida; 32 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two sons, Ricky and Paul Shepherd; one great grandson, Elmer Bentley Jr.; and one sister Sally Arnett. Funeral services were conducted September 7, at 1 p.m. at Dunn-Kelley/Prater and Dunn Chapel with Mike Smith and Bethel Bolen officiating. Burial followed in the Wireman Cemetery on Route 7 with Dunn-Kelley/Prater and Dunn Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
