Born Feb. 14, 1947, in Magoffin County, he was a son of the late Arnold and Julie Brown Williams. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Williams and Johnny Williams; and two sisters, Eva “Dollie” Reed and Imogene Higgins. Survivors include his wife, Lillie Elam Williams; two sons, James Williams Jr., of Battle Creek, Mich., and Joey Dwayne Williams of Ceresco; two daughters, Darlene Lake of Belleview, Mich., and Connie Warner of Homer, Mich.; a brother, Roy Williams of Campton; four sisters, Carolyn Sue Williams of Mt. Sterling, Katherine Bailey of Campton, Eunice Arnett of Battle Creek and Gloria Bailey of Salyersville; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Thursday, April 10, at Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel, Salyersville, with Rev. John Gilley officiating. Burial was in Williams Family Cemetery, Middle Fork, under direction of Magoffin County Funeral Home.
