On the back of this photo it says:

Made Dec. 21, 1899. Clarks School. Ernest G. Maddox on the extreme right and
sister just above him."

My grandfather was the teacher and Lake Maddox, his sister, helped him that
year.
In his memoirs, p. 48: "1888-1889,Clarks school was located about three
miles East of Briensburg. It was a large school and my sister Lake assisted
me. We drove from home each day and back in the afternoon. School began at 8
and closed at 4."
