Ward of the county and state aforesaid and Presly Lane of Brown County State of Ohio who being duly sworn according to Law, declare that Elizabeth Ward is the reputed widow of Benjamin Ward deceased who she states in her declaration and the preceding page of this sheet was a private in the company commanded by Captain Burwill Spurlock in the Regiment of Virginia Militia commanded by Colonel Elisha McComas in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June 1812, that they believe the said Elizabeth Ward was married to the said Benjamin Ward deceased in Franklin County, State of Virginia on the 20th day of September 1805 as she states in her aforesaid declaration and that her name before her marriage to the said Benjamin Ward deceased was Elizabeth Perdue, they further state that they were intimately acquainted with the said Elizabeth Ward and the aforesaid Benjamin Ward deceased for many years, that they lived together as husband and wife that they acknowledge each other as husband and wife and that they were recognized and reputed to be husband and wife, by the community in which they lived, that the said Benjamin Ward died about the seventh day of January 1848. That the said Elizabeth Ward is still a widow and they further state that they are disinterested witnesses. Samuel B. Ward Presley Lane Subscribed and sworn to before me the day and year above written and I herby certify that Samuel B. Ward and Presley Lane are credible witnesses. Thos A. Ruspess J.P. Additional Comments: Benjamin Ward was son of Daniel and Betsey (maiden?name) Ward. Benjamin enlisted in the Virginia Militia first of March 1815 and was honorable discharged 15 April 1815 after one and a half months service. Elizabeth Perdue was the daughter of Meshack and Eleanor Dillon Perdue and was born ca 1792. She was twelve at the time of her marriage to Benjamin and her father was surety. Benjamin Ward died 1848 in Augusta, Bracken Co., KY. Elizabeth Ward was living with Samuel Ward in 1850 census for Mason Co., KY.
