Submitted by: Vera Burnham vburnham@metrocast.net Date: May 20,2002 **************************************************************************** Aaron Fuqua, McCracken County, was born in Buckingham County, Va., May 12, 1819. His father was a farmer by occupation though in early life he had worked at the stonemanson's trade. He removed to Kentucky in December, 1822 and resided in Logan County until his death. His wife was Mary L. Ayres of Virginia. Our subject lived at home till the death of his father in 1855, when he took charge of the home farm which he operated until his mother's death which occured four years later. in 1860 he came to McCracken County and operated a dam on the river bottoms, and in 1867 removed to Woodville and there resided till 1874 engaged in the drug and grocery business. At the later date he traded his town property for his present farm of 200 acres, on which he has since made many improvements and in many ways beautiful and adorned his home surroundings. For thirty years Mr. Fuqua has been a member of the Masonic fraternity and has held during the time all of the Lodge offices and is now secretary of the Woodville Lodge No. 300. He served the county as its deputy clerk from 1870-74 and was one of the magistrates for his district No. 5, for a term of four years. He fills at the present time the office of county examiner. For many years he has acted as correspondent of the agricultural department of the State and General Governments and has always been identified with important matters of public interest. August 1, 1844 he married Eliza G. Coghill, of this State she died in December 1853. His present wife was Mrs. Sarah A. Haddox.
