Griffin, McCracken County, was born July 18, 1819, near the Virginia and North Carolina line. His parents were William G. and Phoebe (Glover) Griffin, natives respectively of Kentucky and North Carolina. The father was engaged in merchandising in North Carolina, and was there married. He was a son of William Griffin. W.P. the subject of these lines is the only one living of the three children born to his parents. He was engaged in early life, in clerking in his native State, and after his marriage, gave his attention to farming pursuits. Leaving Virginia in 1843, he came to this county in 1867, after having resided several years in Christain and Ballard Counties, Ky. During the war he sold goods in the latter county. At present he has farming property both here and in Tennessee, and during his life has administered on several estates. He was first married to Miss Caroline Howerton, of Virginia, a daughter of Thomas Howerton, of Virginia. Five children are living of this union; James A., Cornelia E., Thomas M., Theodore W., and Ella C. His present wife Sallie M., is a daughter of Joseph M. Fauntberry; a son, James A. is living of this marriage.
