Vaughn was born in Montgomery County, Tenn., in 1833 and is a son of Grandison Vaughn and Elizabeth W. Vaughn, nee Nevill. His father was a native of Virginia removed in early life to Tennessee married Miss E.W. Nevill and located permanently in Montgomery County, near Clarksville. He there engaged in the pursuits of agriculture until 1858, at which time he removed to Kentucky, settling in Ballard County. He then established and built a tobacco stemmery and did an extensive business until 1866 when with his sons he removed to Louisville, Ky. and there engaged in the same business until his death, which occured in 1879; his wife died in Ballard County about 1866. Edward W. is one of a family of ten children born to these parents, six of whom are now living. Mr. Vaughn was reared under the wholesome influnce of farm life ; recieved a fair experience in the tobacco trade in Clarksville, Tenn. He removed with his family to Ballard County, Ky., in 1858, thence to Louisville, in 1866; and to Paducah, in 1869, and that year erected his stemmery, which is the largest in Western Kentucky, exporting each year large quanties of tobacco for the foreign market. Mr. Vaughn is a member of the Christain Church, of the Masonic fraternity and is a gentleman of rare social and business qualities. He was married in 1859, in Russellville, Logan Co., Ky. to Miss Mildred McCuddy, who died in 1869, leaving two children; Annie L. and Lucy Vaughn. His second marriage took place in 1871, to Miss Cordelia M. Terrell, daughter of J.H. Terrell. Their union has resulted in the birth of four children; Horace G., Mildred, Edward W. and one unnamed.
