Vaughn, son of Grandison Vaughn and Elizabeth (Nevill) Vaughn, was born near Clarksville, Montgomery Co., Tenn., in 1838, and grew to maturity on his father's farm. When sixteen years old he went to Springfield, Mo., where he began and pursued the study of law; was admitted to practice in 1858, and until the breaking out of the war engaged in his profession associated with Peter S. Wilkes, of Springfield, Mo. During the first year of the war, he was a member of the Missouri State Guards, under Gen. Price, after which he engaged in tobacco and general commision business in St. Louis remaining there about one year. In 1863, he began merchandising in Ballard County; soon after located at Woodville, McCracken County, where he sold goods until 1869, when he removed to Paducah, where he has since been actively engaged in the tobacco business. Mr. Vaughn is a Democrat in politics. He represents his ward in the city council and is an active member of the Masonic fraternity, K.of H. and the A.O.U.W. He was married in Springfield. Mo. in 1858, to Miss Julia Dade, daughter of Judge John Dade of that city. They are blessed with three children; Bessie, wife of Frank L. Scott; Mattie and Bertie Vaughn. Both Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn are acceptable members of the Christain Church of Paducah
