Maddox Union, S. C. Madam: I have to advise you that from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim R.3147, it appears that John R. Dunn, aged thirty-nine years and a resident of Rutherford County, Tennessee, applied on October 3, 1848 for pension on account of the services of his father, Silas Dunn, and alleged that Silas Dunn enlisted at Salisbury {Rowan County, NC], as a private, was shortly afterward commissioned Captain in the North Carolina Troops and served until 1782, five years and six months in all. He died January 3, 1809, six miles from Salisbury, North Carolina and his widow, Mary, (maiden name not stated) died in North Carolina in 1822. They had 12 children, six of whom were alive in 1848, namely: John R., Henry and William, of Union District, South Carolina; George of McCracken County, Kentucky; Charles and Elizabeth (married name illegible) of Rowan County, North Carolina. The names of the other children are not on record. The pension claim was not allowed as the children had no title to pension in their own right. Respectfully, Commissioner Source: HeritageQuest Online File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ky/mccracken/military/revwar/pensions/dunn3149gmt.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/kyfiles/
